Body Piercing Risks – Must be Aware of These

Before getting any type of body piercings you need to understand that there are multiple risks associated with this procedure and they are pretty real. There can be big problems that do come up and cannot be ignored. However, you can take proper precautions and strict aftercare in order to minimize these risks and fulfill your goal of having the piercing successfully forever. Several people do not end up having a normal and healthy piercing because they are not aware of the risks and do not take proper care during the healing time. Let me uncover a few body piercing risks in the upcoming passages.

Not to mention but infection is the biggest risk that can easily show up if proper care is not taken. You can end up facing scarring or even blood poisoning. Infections can end up being very bad and trust me; they are not good looking at all. Many people end up having allergic reactions since they do not know what metal type they are allergic towards; your body might not accept certain metal and you end up wearing jewelry made out of it; this will result in a negative reaction. People have faced rashes, swelling, and a hard time in breathing due to this. Many cases have been resulted where the person went in a shock and got hospitalized.

It is important that your piercing is placed accurately and carefully otherwise you can suffer from nerve damage. In case if the piercing damages your nerve, the surrounding area may get paralyzed permanently and you will not feel anything over there. Excessive bleeding is another big risk and it happens when a large blood vessel gets struck during the procedure. The scene is not pretty at all since the blood would not stop pouring out and you would end up in the hospital’s emergency room. There is a big risk of cross contamination leading towards HIV virus or hepatitis or similar problems if the needles and jewelry used are not properly sterilized. Keloids can also show up without any reasons; these look like cysts, toughened knots at the bottom of the piercing.

People who go for body piercing should know that till a year after the procedure they cannot donate blood to anyone and they might also face dental risks at any point. This usually happens in cases of tongue piercings where the teeth enamel and gums might face damage.

Piercing Aftercare – Things You Must be Careful About

The biggest problem that anyone can face right after getting a piercing done is suffering from a piercing infection. Regardless of wherever you got a piercing; infection can easily result in. It is important that you do not go to just any piercer for getting the job done; choose the best and most professional one. Such a piercer will make sure that the needles and jewelry used are all sterilized and it is your job to make sure that it happens in front of you. Some piercings are harder to keep clean than others such as tongue piercings; bacteria can easily attack and give you an infection. It is important that you regularly clean the piercing using hydrogen peroxide along with following the recovery treatment strictly as the piercer told you.

Also, if a serious infection results in or the piercing job done is not professional; pierce scarring can also result in. Every time your body is in the process of healing itself, there is a risk of scarring. Talking about piercing healing; you might just have a hole with a scarring tissue that you can do nothing about. Sometimes the body negatively reacts to the metal jewelry placed in the piercing and forces it to go out and close the hole; scar tissue then fills up the hole. Make sure that whatever jewelry you choose to wear should be made from non-allergenic material such as stainless steel.

The piercing’s gauge will let you know how big of the jewelry you can wear in it. Placing something that is bigger than the gauge will stretch the hole and tear it to a point that it is no more of any use. This is easily avoidable if you carefully make sure that you put no more weight than your piercing can handle along with using the right size gauge for the jewelry you wear. It will never stretch out this way.

You should always have a discussion with the piercer regarding the whole process especially about the piercing healing process. Tell him or her exactly what you want and then ask about all the risks and how you can minimize them. Generally piercings do not really hurt for that long once you are done with the procedure and recovery period goes on smoothly but it is up to you to make sure that you do nothing wrong that would put your health in trouble.
